COSTA NOVA

Fine Stoneware

In our factories in Portugal, ancient shaping and decorative techniques are combined with modern technology in a unique process that produces high-quality fine stoneware designed to withstand everyday use for many years.

Each piece is single-fired at temperatures up to 1180°C (2160°F), resulting in an exceptionally strong and durable body. The glazed surface is fully vitrified, making it highly resistant to thermal shock and mechanical impact.

Preporuke za održavanje

Oven, freezer and microwave safe

All pieces manufactured in fine stoneware have high thermal shock resistance, withstanding temperature variations between -20ºC and 250ºC (0ºF to 500ºF). The maximum thermal variation advised is 180ºC (350ºF). All stoneware products can be safely used in the oven, microwave, and freezer.

Recommendations:

  • Avoid placing pieces straight from the oven on a cold surface.
  • Do not use stoneware over a direct flame.
  • Avoid using products with craquelé surfaces* in the oven or freezer (e.g., Cristal - Nacar, Dori - Nacar, Elements - Algarve, Madeira, Riviera and Silvina - Terracotta).

* Craquelé Glaze (also known as crackle glaze) – a decorative glaze characterized by fine web-like crack patterns that form during the cooling process, creating a rustic and vintage appearance.

*Craquelé glaze is always reactive.

Dishwasher safe

All our pieces are easy to clean and can withstand abrasive cleaners due to their high durability and low porosity. Most items are dishwasher safe for daily use.

Recommendations:

  • Assure items don’t rub or bump against each other in the dishwasher.
  • Hand wash oversized or delicate pieces.
  • PVD gold-coated (Riviera) stoneware items: Not safe for oven, microwave, or freezer. Hand washing is advised.
  • Lagoa metal’s glaze should be protected by avoiding prolonged contact with acidic foods.
  • Nótos’ Mill is not dishwasher safe.

Food safe

All COSTA NOVA products meet international standards, including those set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for lead and cadmium, securing they are safe for food use.

Craftsmanship

All COSTA NOVA fine stoneware products are hand-finished, giving them a unique character. Any irregularities, color variations, or small imperfections are signs of authenticity.

CUTLERY

At COSTA NOVA, our stainless-steel cutlery is designed to last a lifetime - combining design, functionality, and durability. With proper care, each piece will maintain its beauty, performance, and finish for years to come.

To preserve its original characteristics, we recommend the following care guidelines:

  • After each use, remove food residues to avoid prolonged contact with the metal.
  • For hand washing, use warm water, a neutral detergent, and a soft cloth or sponge.
  • Do not use abrasive or mechanically aggressive cleaning agents.
  • In the dishwasher, place cutlery in the basket or tray, keeping knives separate from other pieces.
  • After each washing cycle, dry the cutlery with a soft cloth.
  • Pay special attention to knives, particularly those with hollow handles, as they are sharper and more prone to oxidation — dry them thoroughly after washing.
  • To restore shine and remove stains, use a soft cloth with a few drops of lemon juice.
  • Special materials such as Fibber/Resin handles or PVD-treated finishes must be washed exclusively in the dishwasher under the following conditions:Temperature not exceeding 60°CDetergent containing less than 10% phosphates
  • Store cutlery in a dry place.
  • Resin handles should occasionally be moisturized with a hydrating cream.
  • Steak or cheese knives with wooden handles should not be washed in the dishwasher. Wash them by hand with a non-abrasive sponge and dry immediately with a soft cloth to prevent corrosion or stains.

GLASSWARE

COSTA NOVA glassware collections are crafted from machine-blown or hand-blown glass. Wine glasses, water glasses, and tumblers are dishwasher safe; however, hand washing is recommended to extend their lifespan.

To maintain their original quality, we recommend:

Before dishwashing:

  • Rinse glasses with lukewarm water to remove any residue.

Dishwasher guidelines:

  • Place glasses securely in appropriate holders to prevent scratching.
  • Set washing temperature to 65°C, rinsing temperature to 65°C, with a cycle of 90–120 seconds.
  • Use the correct amount of rinse aid — too much may cause iridescence, while too little can leave water spots.
  • After the cycle, open the dishwasher door for 5–10 minutes to allow steam to escape and prevent condensation marks.

Hand washing:

  • Wash glasses individually using mild detergent, warm water, and a soft cloth or sponge.
  • Dry with a microfiber cloth.

For large or delicate items (such as decanters or glass lids), hand washing is strongly recommended.

TEXTILES

Our textile collections are made in Portugal from high-quality natural fibers. They are easy to use and maintain — machine washable and ironable according to the care instructions for each specific material.

Bio-Based Eco-Leather (Artificial Leather)

Contains 30% renewable plant-based materials and incorporates copper nanoparticles with antibacterial properties.

LEATHER

Natural leather accessories are handcrafted in Portugal and vegetable-tanned — one of the oldest and most natural tanning processes. The result is a durable leather that develops a beautiful patina over time.

Recommended care:

  • Wipe with a damp cloth.
  • Occasionally treat with an appropriate leather oil to preserve elasticity and appearance.

CORK & CORK / RECYCLED EVA

COSTA NOVA cork collections are made from either 100% natural cork (Cork, Nótos, and Redonda collections) or a combination of 20% cork and 80% recycled EVA material (Plano collection).

EVA is an environmentally friendly material derived from recycled industrial waste.

We recommend:

  • Clean with a soft, dry cloth.
  • If necessary, use a slightly damp cloth, but avoid soaking.
  • Store away from direct sunlight, humidity, and heat sources.
  • Avoid strong alkaline substances, as they may damage the cork material.
  • Although safe for food contact, avoid placing food directly on the surface due to potential odor transfer.

WOOD

Wooden accessories are handcrafted in Portugal from the highest-quality wood. Each piece is unique due to natural variations in tone and texture.

Recommended care:

  • Hand wash only.
  • Wipe with a damp cloth; do not soak.
  • Use mild detergent if necessary.
  • Before first use, apply food-grade mineral oil.
  • Use exclusively for dry food.
  • Occasionally treat with wood wax or oil to maintain appearance and durability. Avoid flavored oils, as they may become rancid. Suitable options include walnut, linseed, coconut, or flaxseed oil.
  • Never place wooden accessories in the dishwasher or leave them submerged in water.
  • If edges become rough, lightly sand with fine sandpaper and reapply wood oil or wax.
